Most twenty-something-year-olds are in their beds sleeping on a Saturday at seven in the morning. Those of us that are only in London for thirty-three days have no time for sleep in large doses.
Located in the quaint and famous neighborhood of Notting Hill, Portobello Market will have you feeling emersed into English culture immediately. Despite any initial presumptions, there’s far more than fresh grown fruit and veggies up for the taking. In fact, there’s an excellent selection of antiques. Amongst the stands, I snagged a 90’s vintage Zadig & Voltaire beaded denim jacket for a mere £15. Meanwhile, my friend Gabrielle bought a handmade tan goat leather backpack for just £50. Go, be merry, and don’t forget to bring your cash. Better yet, don’t forget your debit card in Cafe Nero, as I did!
Back at my internship, I found myself surrounded by a multitude of press coverage regarding the CFDA awards. Celebrities to the likes of Priyanka Chopra, Arizona Muse, Joan Smalls, and (my personal favorite) legendary feminist Gloria Steinem all wore Michael Kors to the event. Please excuse me while I fangirl, and bask in the glory of all that is Gloria Steinem.
Speaking of glory and feminism, let’s talk unrealistic beauty standards. In the past two and a half weeks, I’ve slowly watched myself transform into a full on candy and dessert addict. The reason being is that all of the sweets I’ve consumed are simply superior to anything equivalent back home.
Whether you’re in the mood for chocolate covered biscuits, anything Cadbury, or puddings: London has you covered. I was particularly delighted when I discovered Sugar Sin and Milk Train just a stone’s throw from Michael Kors. If you’d like to walk into a real life, muggle version of Honeydukes, then Sugar Sin is the place to be and will truly have you feeling like a kid in a candy store. Milk Train, on the other hand, is what sugary fantasies are made of. I’m talking delicious ice cream, surrounded by a giant cloud of cotton candy. My fellow Michael Kors interns and I went after work for the perfect indulgent post-work treat. Cheerio, summer body goals!
